100 metre finals and 800m handicap - list of entrants. Races are Saturday 23rd March 2024

Below is the list of entrants for the 100m Handicap finals - and the Warren Hosking 800m Handicap, to be held this Saturday 23 March, as part of Presentation Day.

We wish the best of luck for all entrants!

Timing of events

In order to not hold up the all of the families that will be there on the day, we ask for;;

  • All Tim Golder 100m finalists to arrive and assemble by 8:45 am. The races will commence at 9am sharp.

  • All Warren Hosking 800m runners to arrive and assemble by 9am. The races will begin at 9.20

It goes without saying that if you are late, we will start the races without you. And yes, if you are lucky enough to be in both races, we will allow for that.

2023 - 2024 State Track & Field Championships

With a change of venue and very hot and windy conditions our Team Keilor Athletes were outstanding over the weekend and performed to their very best with many of our 70 athletes achieving Personal Best performance in one or more of their events.

These performances along with many other fantastic efforts led to Team Keilor collecting 37 medals. We seem to be achieving more each year.

A huge congratulations to our U/17 Boys who in their last year of Little Aths demonstrated great performances and showed their determination to keep trying to our younger athletes. Between them they received 10 medals, gained 5 STATE Best Performances and many personal best performances. A super effort boys.

State Best Performances

Ethan Stegehuis U/17:  110m Hurdles with a time of 13.51s

                                         300m Hurdles with a time of 37.99s

Bailey Farrington U/17:   Long Jump with a jump of 6.58m

Noah Mc Menamin U/17: High Jump with a jump of 2:00m

Finn Daffey U/17:  800m with a time of 2m 04.62s

William Hurt U/16:  100m with a time of 10.76s

                                 200m with a time of 22.07s

Thirteen of our athletes achieved multiple medals:

Alexis Borkovic U/9:         Our up-and-coming U/9 star in the sprinting events, with

                                            Gold in the 70m, 200m & 400m and Silver in the 100m.

A fantastic weekend of running Alexis.

Brandon Hill U/9:               Another U/9 athlete showing lots of promise, with Bronze

                                            in 3 events, the 70m, 100m & 60m Hurdles.

Ethan Stegehuis U/17:      Our hurdling expert, winning the 110m Hurdles & 300m

Hurdles, and gaining a Silver Medal in the 200m

William Hurt U/16:             A sprinting double with Gold Medals in the 100m & 200m.

Bailey Farrington U/17:    Gold in the Long Jump and Bronze in the 100m

Noah Mc Menamin U/17:  Our Jumping expert, winning Gold in the High jump &

                                            Bronze in the Triple Jump.

Leila Stegehuis U/15:        Silver in 200m & Bronze in the High Jump

Charlotte Darmanin U/11:Bronze in 200m & 400m

Ruby Withers U/12:           Our throwing star with Silver in Discus & Bronze in Shot Put

Our long-distance runners showed great stamina over the weekend in such hot and windy conditions. They were all exhausted at the end of the races and needed that drink and fan at the end line. The following athletes achieved medals in 2 events.

Leanne Ellis U/16:              Sliver in the 800m & 1500m.

Isaac Faure U/17:              Bronze in the 800m and 1500m

Cody Levidis U/12:           Bronze in the 800m & 1500m.

Antonio Stamatis U/11:    Bronze in the 400m and 800m.

For Sandra and I, there were many highlights over the weekend, some of our favourite were:

  • Athletes giving us thumbs up every time we asked “did you get a PB?”

  • Watching our U/9 athletes in their 1st State event and seeing them give it their “ALL”

  • The exhaustion/heat shown on faces of our athletes and tired parents while patiently waiting for hours between events and trying to keep cool in the shade!

  • The support & sportsmanship our Keilor athletes demonstrated not only to their Keilor teammates but to athletes from other centres.

  • The Team Keilor supporters on the fence line cheering on our Athletes.

  • Watching Noah U/17 performing in High Jump and seeing that great 2.00m  State record jump – Lucky he didn’t jump any higher because I don’t think the side supports were long enough…

  • Watching Josephine U/10 throw a PB in all 4 throws in Shot Put and claim a Silver medal – her smile all day was priceless

  • ·The determination of all our athletes in very hot and windy conditions not only running but trying to jump into a headwind in LH & TJ and throwing the Discus & Javelin with the wind swirling around.

Congratulations to all of TEAM KEILOR, the athletes and families for a great weekend of sportsmanship, wonderful personal best performances and positive support.

A fantastic effort.

This weekend cannot occur without our supportive Keilor Club committee and members. Thanks to the coaching team who train the athletes at the club on Tuesday & Thursday nights, our Keilor starters helping at State level over the weekend,  Allison for posting  all the Facebook Pictures and to all the parents who completed duties and helped out when needed – a Big thank you.

Well done everyone. A great Team Effort.

Please look at our Keilor Little Athletics Club Facebook page for photos from the weekend.

Go Team Keilor - Let’s keep improving.

What age group is my athlete?

Little Athletics goes by the ‘Under X’ system., where the age group is set by the age of the athlete as of Jan 1st midway through the summer season.

In other words, if your athlete is 7 years old as at 1 January 2024, they wil be in the U8 age group for this current season.

Still not 100% sure? An age group calculator can be found here, which hopefully helps you decide which age group is correct.

Program announced for the 2023/24 Track and Field season

We are pleased to announce that dates have been finalised for this upcoming season.

Some of the highlights are:

  • Two Come and Try Days, on the 9th and 23rd September. These days are a great opportunity for new families to find out what we do

  • Regular season kicks off on 7th October.

  • We then compete most weeks until (our one) Sunday 17th December, which is our Xmas round

  • We expect the annual joint round with Essendon and Craigieburn to be on 27 Jan 2024, and to be held at Essendon.

  • Regular competition resumes on 3 Feb, and then will be on most weeks until the final week of regular competition on 2nd Mar 2024

  • Centre Championships on 16 March.

  • Presentation Day on 23th March.

For full details of the program, check out the calender via the button below:

Cross-country season begins with Come and Try day on 29 April - see full list of dates here

With the summer athletics now complete, this means the winter cross country season starts soon! If you are a member of Keilor Little Athletics Centre for the 2022/23 season, then you membership for cross country is paid as part of your fees. If you are not a member of KLAC, you can sign up via our website by hitting the JOIN/TRIAL button https://www.keilorlac.org.au/

Races begin at 9am and are generally completed by 11am. If we are the host centre, we require parent participation by a small number of parents to stand at checkpoints on the course and direct the kids where to run. If you are interested in helping with training during the week or marshalling when we host the event at Keilor please let us know – we are always looking for volunteers.

The provisional dates for XC and more details are below.

What is cross country?
Cross-country season begins April 29th (optional Come and Try Day at Keilor) and runs through to 19th August. Unlike track and field in the summer, the venue for cross-country events changes weekly with locations including the Aberfeldie athletics track in Essendon, our track at Keilor, Coburg, Craigieburn, Sunbury and Bundoora. There are also regional and state championships for cross country with the dates published below.

Cross-country involves athletes running just one event, with distances listed below for the various age groups.

CROSS-COUNTRY EVENTS ARE NEVER CANCELLED FOR WET OR COLD WEATHER

So please ensure that your athletes are dressed appropriately, which can include long black pants, and warm black tops under the Keilor top. Commonwealth Bank name patches are still required with the Coles badge above the LA Vic logo. Races start at 9am and are usually completed by 11am.

Northern Metro Region (NMR) and Little Athletics Victoria (LA Vic) host region and state events for cross-country with road relay championships and State Championships over the same distances.

Keilor members who have joined for the preceding summer track and field season can compete in cross-country without paying additional registration fees. In addition athletes who did not register for the summer season can join for the cross-country season only, at a reduced fee - Click the join button on our website.

RECORDS, RECORDS, AND MORE RECORDS!!!! - Northern Metro Region Individual Championships 2023.

What a record- breaking weekend Team Keilor had at the Northern Metro Region Individual Championships 2023.

For the first time at NMR Team Keilor finished on top of the

medal tally in the region with

148 medals in total

57 Gold

42 Silver

49 Bronze

NMR records for our individual events tumbled all weekend.

·      Starting with Mark Mavrakis running a technique perfect race in the

U/16 Boys 300m hurdles to achieve a State Best Performance and an NMR Record in a time of 39.98sec. Beating the old record by over 2.5 seconds!

·      Mark then did it all again on Sunday in the 100m Hurdles to break another NMR record in a time of 13.38sec.

·      Our young U/10 Athlete Antonio Stamatis ran a great race in the U/10Boys 800m to break the record with the time of 2:35:33.

·      In the 1500m early on Sunday morning our U/15 athlete Jonathan Neethling took on the U/16 & U/17 boys to outrun them all to achieve an excellent win and new NMR record of 4:15:31, breaking the old record by 5 sec!

·      Ethan Stegehuis out sprinted his 2 Keilor teammates in the U/16 boys 400m gaining a New NMR Record with 53:85sec.

·      Our U/14 Athlete Brandon Cvetanoski sailed through the air in the Triple Jump to record a massive 12:84m jump and a new NMR Record.

·      And in one of the final field events of the weekend Stephanie Clarke U/11 performed a terrific jump to record a new NMR Long Jump record with 4:44m.

Along with these great performances came so, so many Best Performances from all our 97 athletes over the weekend. It was hard to keep up with all the medals and wonderful times, throw and jumps they all did.

Congratulations to the many athletes who gained medal places, many with multiple medals, to help us become the overall winning Club for the weekend.

For Sandra and I, there were many highlights over the weekend, some of our favourite were:

The sound of cheering for our Team Keilor. With such a large team of athletes and even bigger support crew of family and friends around the track it was a wonderful to hear.

The smiles on our energetic U/9 girls when cheering and supporting each other in the 60m Hurdles and then hugs all round at the end line.

Having Tim Golder turn up on both day and support all the athletes that he has gotten to know over the years through his Relay coaching.

Our State Best Performance from Mark Mavrakis.

We loved that it's not all about medals, athletes thrilled with new pbs against the best in the region.  We had so many athletes tell us they got a PB in some or all their events.

With so much going on it was hard to see everything and everyone, so hearing all the Keilor Athlete names called to presentation was special... especially 3 in a row.

We enjoyed seeing the friendly rivalry between the athletes, athletes from other clubs who once were just an opponent, growing into friendships and offering support and cheering each other on.

Oh and finally, the water/ mist/ spray tent. That was huge highlight enjoyed by all who were aware of its existence - especially Sunday afternoon.   We need one of those!!

This weekend cannot occur without our supportive Keilor committee. Getting everything organised for the weekend, setting up of Friday evening, completing duties, posting Facebook Pictures and packing up at the end of the weekend. It is a massive job.

Thank you to our coaching team who train the athletes at the club on Tuesday & Thursday nights and who were in attendance over the weekend for warmups and advice.  Thank you, Riley, Bec, Wilson and Marie.

A very big thank you to the parents (Angela Mavraski, Coleen Leckie, Wayne Mangion, Karley Cromie & Jason Sobell) who took on Chief roles at Discus and Long Jump over the weekend – a huge responsibility.

We also had many of our talented Keilor starters helping, Chrissy, Jen, Calvin & Rebecca. No wonder our athletes know exactly what to do at the start of our races every Saturday.

And to all the parents who completed duties and helped when needed – a Big thank you.

Well done everyone. A great Team Effort.

Please look at our Keilor Little Athletics Club Facebook page for photos from the weekend.

We are looking forward to cheering on all the athletes who have progressed to the State event in March. Let’s continue breaking records!

This event saw athletes from across the state competing against one another and challenging each other to perform at their very best. And the very best we did, with many outstanding performances (some 5 - 15 sec BP’s in our 800m & 1500m races, a 3m PB in Discus and 10cm PB in High Jump). Amazing!

These performances along with many other fantastic efforts led to Team Keilor collecting 34 medals. Our biggest ever medal tally.

Six of our athletes achieved multiple medals:

  • Stephanie Clarke U/11 represented Keilor in 5 events and came away with    a Gold in Triple Jump, Silver in 400m and bronze medals in both the 200m & Long Jump.

  • Jordi Seidel U/11 achieved another Gold medal performance in the 80m Hurdles, gained a Bronze medal in Triple jump and then jumped for joy when he jumped a PB in his last jump in Long Jump to gain a Silver medal.

  • Mark Mavraski U/15 had a busy weekend competing in 4 events and coming home with a Gold in the 400m, Silver in both the 300m Hurdles & Triple Jump and a Bronze medal in the 200m.

  • Jonathon Neething U/15 ran 2 inspiring long-distance races with such a relaxed running style to finish with a Silver medal in 1500m & and a Bronze medal in the 800m.

  • Bailey Farrington U/16 our jumping guru finished with Silver in LJ and Bronze in TJ and then top his weekend off with the Bronze in the 200m.

  • Ethan Stegehuis  U/16 finished his weekend of exceptional racing with Gold medals in both hurdle events over 100m &  300m. He also ran in the 200m to gain a Silver medal & a Bronze in the 400m.

A special mention to our Club Captain Charlotte Duggan U/17. Charlotte has been a member of our club for many years and continued each year to strive for her personal best in all events. This year in her final year of Little Athletics she won a Bronze medal in the 1500m race and 2 top 8 positions in the 800m and 100m Hurdles. Congratulations Charlotte.

For Sandra and I, there were many highlights over the weekend, some of our favourite were:

  • Athletes striving to achieve those PBs

  • Smiling faces of the athletes and parents through the weekend

  • The support & sportsmanship out Keilor athletes demonstrated not only to their Keilor teammates but to athletes from other centres.

  • The exhaustion shown on faces of our athletes at the end of the 400, 800m and 1500ms races showing that they had given their “ALL’

Congratulations to all of TEAM KEILOR, the athletes and families for a great weekend of sportsmanship, wonderful personal best performances and positive support (especially shown by our older athletes towards or younger athletes) and loud cheering for all our athletes. A fantastic effort.

This weekend cannot occur without our supportive Keilor Club committee and members. Thanks to the coaching team who train the athletes at the club on Tuesday & Thursday nights, our Keilor starters helping at State level over the weekend,  Allison for posting  all the Facebook Pictures and to all the parents who completed duties and helped when needed – a Big thank you.

Well done everyone. A great Team Effort.

Please look at our Keilor Little Athletics Club Facebook page for photos from the weekend.

Go Team Keilor - Let’s keep improving.

State Relays 2022/2023

What an amazing day of running “Team Keilor” showed at

Lakeside Athletics Track at the State Relay Championships on

Saturday 4th Feb 2023.

We had 76 teams competing - Keilor’s highest number of teams ever - at the State Relay Championships.

Our Keilor Team of over 80 athletes just seem to be getting better and better every year. They should be congratulated for their determined running, for demonstrating excellent team spirit and support for each other throughout the very long day.  You gave your parents, family and coaches many reasons to cheer, smile and be extremely proud of your efforts.

Although not every team came home with a medal, all age groups and teams showed great strength and resilience to work together and strive for Team Best Performances.

U/9 teams: Our first-time relay stars trained hard for Tim over the past few months and showed they are keen to learn and so excited to be running at their best. They unfortunately had to start the day in wet conditions, but they did not seem concerned and put in wonderful performances in all races throughout the day to come home with 2 Bronze medals and 2 more top 10 place finishes. A great start to their Relay adventure.

U/10 teams: What a fabulous group of athletes we have at this age group under the coaching of Derek & Julia.  They competed in 8 different races and came home with 5 top 10 finishes and Silver & Bronze medals. We look forward to watching them continue to develop into a stronger team in U/11 and gain podium finishes.

U/11 teams: Our Superstars, this group of athletes showed determination to work as hard as possible and aim for PB performances in all of their 9 races. Tim had the combinations of athletes in the mixed races and Medleys so spot on they finished the day with 5 Medals, 1 Gold, 3 Silvers and a Bronze medal and another 3 top 10 finishes.

U/12 teams:

What a fabulous small group athletes we have at this age group. The boys trained hard throughout the season and showed great determination to run PB’s in their 2 races on Saturday. Well done boys.

U/13 teams: With ten teams competing, this shows the continued strength of this age group. With the help of their coach, Seona, the teams recorded many PBs. They collected a Silver Medal in the Mixed 4X100m, a close fourth in the Girls Medley event and 3 more top 10 places.

U/14 teams: GOLD in the Boys 4 x 100m & Medley, GOLD in the Girls 4 x 200m, SILVER in the Mixed 4 x200m, BRONZE in the Girls 4 x100m and Mixed 4 X100 makes our U/14 team our most successful team for the day. The team had over 20 athletes competing in thirteen different events. What a strong depth of talent we have at this age group – it is big achievement to get Teams A, B & C to the State Championship. This group has created such a strong bond over the years of training with Tim, their baton changes seem to be set on automatic.

U/15 teams: This amazing group of athletes competed in 15 races throughout the day, that’s a lot of juggling and cooperation between coach (Tim), parents and athletes to ensure everyone knows their race and is ready at the correct time. Well done team! Some of these athletes have been training with Tim as part of the relay teams for the past seven years – an amazing commitment to Team Keilor.  For all their hard work the team was rewarded with 5 Medals, 3 Sliver & 2 Bronze, 8 more top 10 performances and many PB’s. We look forward to more achievements next year.

U/16 teams:  Louise has got this team working so well together that although they were missing a team member due to injury, they all stepped up, changed races & running positions to make it work. And work it did! The team finished in the top 5 in all of their 7 races, with 2 Gold medals, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze for the boys’ teams.  With only 1 U/16 Girl, a big thank you to the U/15 athlete for running in our 4 X 100 Mixed team and finishing a close 4th.

U/17 teams:  Our 3 U/17 female athletes competed in the relays for the last time.  With the help of Boys from U/16 and Girls from U/15 & U16 teams they were able to compete in 4 races. In all 4 races they finished in the top 6 in the state. A great achievement in their last year of Little Athletics. Well done girls.

Over the weekend (12th & 13th Nov 2022) 34 of our Keilor Athletes competed in the State Combined event.

The Combined Events consisted of five events for U/9 – U/12 athletes, six events for U/13’s and seven events for U/14, U/15, U/16 & U/17 athletes. The Combined competition requires a strength in a variety of disciplines and endurance to compete over a long time. Each athlete competes in all events and points are awarded for each event. After their final 800m event the points are then tallied for an overall winner.

For many of our athletes this was their first experience at the combined event, especially Keilor U/9 athletes experienced their 1st ever State event.  They all showed a strong determination to strive towards personal best performances in each of their events.  There were many, many PB’s over the weekend. We hope this is the start of a long association with Little Athletics state events.

Our older athletes, U/13 - U/16 have continued to perform at this State level year after year we achieved 10 top 10 places in the state. These strong performances are a credit to their persistence and training over the years to achieve their best. They are a great example for our younger athletes.

Josephine Ho U/9 led the charge in our 800m races and gave all our Keilor supporters a reason to get on our feet and cheer her gutsy 800m run win on Saturday. This was followed by 6 more very impressive 800m wins on Sunday with Stephanie Clark U/11, Cody Levidi U/11, Dolly Negi U/12, Zulq Haider U/14, Mitchell Iannello U/15 & Mark Mavrakis U/15 all taking line honours in their respective 800m races.  Sensational runs. We must be doing something right at our centre coaching sessions!

Fantastic results Team Keilor – We hope to see more of our athletes try this event next season.

A very big thank you to all our parents & families. Your support of our Keilor team and completing the duties needed to ensure we can run these events for our children is what makes our Keilor club so special.  THANK YOU.

Go Team Keilor.

Over the weekend (Jan 29th & Jan 30th) 24 of our Keilor Athletes competed in the State Combined event.

The Combined Events consisted of five events for U/9 – U/12 athletes, six events for U/13’s and seven events for U/14, U/15 & U/16 athletes. After their final 800m event the points are then tallied for an overall winner.

For many of our athletes this was their first experience at the combined event and they showed a strong determination to strive towards personal best performances in each of their events.

Keilor had four U/9 athletes, Caitlin Sobell, Charlotte Darmanin, Mason Sutherland and Marcus Afedzie experience their 1st State event - what a fantastic job they did with many PB’s. We hope this is the start of a long association with Little Athletics state events. While with our older athletes all 6 of our U/14 & U/15 Boys finished in the top 20 in the state. What a great example for our younger athletes.

Keilor wins Coles funding

The KLAC committee and the Grants Manager have been working hard during the winter season to obtain grants to make the Keilor Little Athletics experience even better for our kids and families!

Today Coles announced that we were one of 23 Victorian centres to receive funding from Coles! The funding will be used to purchase a number of marquees to shade our athletes and volunteers during the summer season.
