2021 State Track & Field Championships

After a shortened covid affected season and the on & off & on again program of NMR individual track & field events it was wonderful to see over 50 of our Keilor athletes attend our State Championships at Lakeside Athletics Stadium over the weekend of 13th & 14th March.

Although Saturday started off with a beautiful red & orange sky and sunshine the conditions changed and challenged our athletes especially our 800m & 200m runners with pouring rain all afternoon. Sunday the weather was sunny and our team spirit and cheering stepped up a notch to support our many stars and medal winners

This event saw athletes from across the state competing against one another and challenging each other to perform at their very best. And the very best we did, with many outstanding performances and Team Keilor collecting 19 medals.

Six of our athletes achieved multiple medals:

  • Zulqarnain Haider U/12 our sprinting sensation was recognised for his Victorian Best Performance in the 200m and gained Gold medals in 100m, 200m & 400m.

  • Dilan Egodawatte U/15 ran 2 inspiring races in the 800m & 1500m leading from start to finish to achieve Gold medals in both events.

  • Ethan Steg  U/14 Finished his great season with a Gold medal in the 200m Hurdles and a Sliver medal in the 400m.

  • Gabriel Owusu-Afriyie U/9 is our up and coming sprinting star with 3 medals from 3 starts with a Silver medal in the 200m, and Bronze medals in the 100m & 400m

  • Sienna Gec U/11 continued her medal winning achievements at State events with              Bronze medals in the 400m & 1500m.

  • Ruby Withers U/9 showed her grit and determination over the weekend and always with a smile on her face to come home with Bronze Medals in the High Jump and 400m.

A special mention to Marie McEvoy U/16. Maire has being a strong member of our club for many years, was one of our Keilor Captains last season and helps coach our younger athletes in long jump. This year in her final year of Little Athletics has achieved two great results at States in her favourite event of the hurdles. On Saturday she finished 4th in the 200m hurdles and then on the Sunday she ran a super race to achieve a Silver Medal in the 90m Hurdles. It was so wonderful to see that smile across her face all afternoon and see her supporting all our younger athletes throughout the day. Congratulations Marie.

A final BIG congratulations to the many athletes who gained personal best performances.  A fantastic achievement.

Congratulations to all of TEAM KEILOR, the athletes and families for a great weekend of sportsmanship, wonderful personal best performances and positive support (especially shown by our older athletes towards or younger athletes) and loud cheering for all our athletes. A fantastic effort.

Go Team Keilor - Let’s do it all again next year.

State Relay Championships 2020 - 2021

Casey Fields Athletics Track, Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 March

What a gruelling ride it has been to get to the State Relays.  Changes this season to accommodate COVID restrictions, shifting the Relays to the end of the season instead of the usual November/December timeslot, cancellation of our Regional events and, finally, only having 4 x 100m events has meant a long and interrupted preparation for all our teams. But we got there!

Our Keilor team of over 60 athletes in 36 different 4 x 100m relay teams should be congratulated for their persistence and training over this extended period. Over the weekend they ran brilliantly while displaying amazing team spirit and support for each other. To ensure that every athlete who wished to run got the chance to, we need to say a very big thank you to athletes who volunteered to run up an age group to help fill teams. A big effort!

Although not every team came home with a medal, all age groups and teams showed great strength and determination to achieve their best. We had many PB performances. Fifteen teams finished in the Top 10 in the State. And another six teams achieved podium finishes.  Amazing results!

U/9 teams: Our new relay stars for Tim to coach for the next six years. What a terrific bunch of athletes, who are keen to learn and so excited to be running at their best. They unfortunately had to contend with the wet, blustery conditions on Saturday morning, but they did not seem concerned and put in wonderful performances to come home with Silver & Bronze medals and a fifth place. A great start to their Relay adventure.

U/10 team: What a fabulous four athletes we have at this age group. Only four athletes continued to train throughout the season and persisted to the end to run on Saturday. Well done, Girls.

U/11 teams: Our U/11s really missed the longer relays and medley events this year, but they showed determination to work as hard as possible and aim for PB performances in the 4 x 100m. Of their six teams, three finished in the Top 8. We look forward to seeing you again next year on top of the podium.

U/12 teams: What to say about our amazing U/12 teams, except WOW!

In the Boys A team, the first three runners – Brandon Cvetanoski, Koby Bewick and Luke Becvinoski – all ran excellent legs, allowing Zulq Haider to collect the baton in first place at the final change. So it was just a matter of how fast this team could go. And fast they did, crossing the line in the GOLD MEDAL position with a New Victorian Record time of 51:68sec.

In the three mixed teams, we saw some excellent teamwork and running to achieve PBs and a Bronze medal for the Mixed A team.

U/13 teams: With nine teams competing, this shows the continued strength of this age group and the close relationships they have formed with each other and their coaches, Tim & Yanah. Eight teams recorded PBs. The Boys and Girls A teams finished in fifth place. Congratulations all four mixed teams. The mixed A team finished a very close fourth and the mixed C team demonstrated great resilience to pick themselves up and finish the race in 59:14sec.

U/14 teams: Our U/14s were another age group disappointed that the longer relays and medley events were not held this year. They nevertheless worked hard together at training to have four teams representing the age group. The two mixed teams crossed the line within one second of each other, finishing in sixth and seventh positions overall. After easily winning their heat, the Boys’ team finished fourth overall. The Girls came ninth. All four teams finished in the Top 10 in the state – a great effort.

U/15 teams: GOLD in the Boys 4 x 100m... again! For the third season in a row, the Boys team has finished with the gold medal – an amazing achievement. This group of boys has created such a strong bond over the years of training with Steve. They team together so well that their baton changes seem to be set on automatic. All Boys ran so well despite injuries throughout the season and last-minute concerns of fitness. The Mixed team clicked again this year and ran a very strong race to gain a Bronze Medal. We sincerely hope to see you all again at the club next year for your U/16 season.

U/16 teams: Our six U/16 athletes competed in the relays for the last time. Some of these athletes have being training with Brian as part of the relay teams for the past six years – an amazing commitment to Team Keilor. Congratulations to our U/16 teams, who finished seventh and eighth on Sunday.

Team Keilor came home with:

2 GOLD

1 SILVER

State Combined Event, 30th and 31st January 2021

Over the weekend (Jan 30th & Jan 31st )15 of our Keilor Athletes competed in the 1st State LAVic event for over 12 months. Although there were co-vid 19 restrictions on athlete numbers and spectators if was wonderful to see so many athletes striving for PB’s at Lakeside Stadium - It was a great sight.

The Combined Events consisted of five events for U/9 – U/14 athletes and seven events for U/15 & U/16 athletes. The Combined competition requires a strength in a variety of disciplines and endurance to compete over a long time. Each athlete competes in all events and points are awarded for each event. At the end of the day after their final 800m event the points are then tallied for an overall winner.

Our athletes showed a strong determination to strive towards personal best performances with every athlete recording at least 1 PB and some athletes achieving a PB in all 5 events. A fantastic effort considering the limited training and competitions over the past 12 months.

Keilor had two Under 9 athletes, Ruby Withers and Parker Mangan experience their 1st State event - what a fantastic job they did and always with a smile on their faces. We hope this is the start of a long association with Little Athletics state events.

Congratulations to our ribbon winners for their age,

a fantastic effort all day.

Picking up of medals and trophies

Sorry, but at this stage no one will be able to pick up medals or trophies.

This is in line with the directives of the Federal and Victorian governments to avoid all non-essential activities.

1920/20 KLAC Track and Field season has now ended.

Following in from the corona virus crises, the Centre Championships have been cancelled, and the Presentation Day has been postponed until a more suitable date. We may end up changing the format of this.

At this stage, no decision has been made on the cross-country season, but this may be delayed or cancelled.

We thank you for your support of the club this past season, and we look forward to the resumption of the sport when this is possible.

Northern Metro Region Track and Filed Carnival 2020

What a Huge weekend Keilor Little Athletics Club had this weekend hosting the NMR Track and Field Carnival. We hosted athletes from eight other clubs at our track to compete in all events for a chance to compete at States in March.

The effort, not only by the committee members but so many of our Keilor families before the day and over the weekend ensuring the all was ready for the NMR was incredible. We had parents fulfilling athletics duties - race  starting/ discus/ long jump/ medal presentations, running the canteen, cooking the BBQ, cleaning clubrooms, making sandwiches, setting up marquees & equipment, pressure hosing all the mud from paths on Saturday evening and packing it all up on Sunday afternoon.  A HUGE Thank You - you are what makes this club so special.

And, then we have our amazing  ninety athletes,  striving in all events for the personal bests and claiming so many medals along the way. Competing in the rain on Saturday did not deter our athletes with many still gaining PB’s in the track events on a rain soaked track. It was great to see some sunshine on Sunday and it seemed to lift our athletes’ spirits and improve their performances.

As you will have seen in the photos on our Facebook page so much determination from all our athletes to succeed.

Congratulations to all our wonderful athletes on their great performances.

Overall Team Keilor achieved:

  • 28 GOLD

  • SILVER

  • 36 BRONZE

  • 3rd overall in the Team results

Special congratulations to all our U/16 athletes who competed in their final  NMR competition.  Great to see continued support and leadership from these aspiring athletes, with all of them gaining at least one medal.

STATE COMBINED EVENT, 1st & 2nd February

Congratulations to our State Champions

SIENNA GEC U/10 and FRANK MAZZA U/15

     SIENNA GEC U/10

This is the 2nd Year in a row Sienna has won this competition.  On Saturday Sienna competed against over 80 other athletes from around the state. A great show of continued development and stamina over the past 12 months. Go Girl!

FRANK MAZZA U/15

For Frank, he is continuing his dominance in Multi event competitions. Earlier in the season, Frank won the State Senior Aths U/15 Title in the Athletics Victoria Vic Multi-event Championships in Bendigo achieving a State record. Frank is heading to America soon to compete in the Simplot Games and will compete in the Australian National Event in Sydney later in the year. A fantastic achievement Frank - wish you Good Luck.

In total thirty athletes represented Keilor Athletics Club at the State Combined Events over the weekend at Lakeside Stadium.

The Combined Events consist of five events for U/9 – U/13 athletes and six events for the U/14’s and seven events for U/15 & U/16 athletes. The Combined competition requires strength in a variety of disciplines and endurance to compete over a long time. Each athlete competes in all events and points are awarded for each event. At the end of the day, points are then tallied for an overall winner.

It was great to see so many athletes attend this Combined event, many for the first time. Our athletes showed a strong determination to strive towards personal best performances and work hard all day, especially in their final event, the 800m.

Congratulations to all of our Keilor athletes.

Keilor Gift - U12 Handicap race, Saturday 15th Feb - Winners announced!

Updated 15 February 2020 - Winners announced!

Congratulations to our 2020 Keilor Gift U12 winners Roman Muse and Charli Mangan. As always it was a tight race, but Roman and Charli pulled that little extra out to cross the line first in their races.

Many people would have heard of the Stawell Gift, a famous handicap running race held in Stawell every Easter. In fact, this is one of a series of such races, including the Keilor Gift, which will be held next Saturday at the Keilor Football Club.

As part of this, the Keilor Gift holds an U12 handicap event for both girls and boys, and our club invites our U12 (and U11) athletes to participate.

The list below shows the Keilor athletes who will be participating, and the distances that they will start of - we thank all athletes and their families for representing Keilor.

To read the table, if we take the Boys race for example, Noah and Antoinee will start at 0 Metres (run the full race), while Connon Prendergast will start 15m in front of him. The aim of the handicapper is that all of the athletes finish at the same time - last year it was a very close and exciting finish, so hopefully we get the same this year.

In both the boys and girls races, the last listed athlete (in italics) is the emergency, in case one of the top 8 cannot compete.

Girls Under 12 (and U11)

We wish all athletes the best of luck on the day! - anyone can win this race…….
